January 8th, 2012 by Jeff

SystemsGo, the Fredericksburg-based nonprofit organization that created the educational rocket program now used in about 50 high schools in Texas, has announced launch dates for 2012.

For the first time in five years of bringing students together for the launch, SystemsGo will conduct launches at two sites – one near Fredericksburg; the other near Houston. Exact locations and directions will be announced later.

The launch dates are:
Fredericksburg
Pre-Flight Dinner: Wednesday, May 2, 2012
Launches: Thursday, May 3 – Sunday, May 6, 2012

Houston:
Pre-Flight Dinner: Friday, May 11, 2012
Launches: Saturday, May 12 – Sunday, May 13, 2012

In the past, students have launched about 70 large rockets they have designed and built in their high school classrooms over the course of the school year. The launches are free and open to the public. Visitors can watch students assemble and launch, along with participating in educational activities, including model rocket building for young students.

The goal of the program is to promote engineering studies and research, develop work force skills, and encourage students to enter academic and career paths in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields that lead to careers in the engineering industries.

SystemsGo is endorsed by NASA and certified by The Space Foundation.
