Only a few blocks from the fabled Fredericksburg Main Street,
you will find a secret suite amongst the trees. The Dovecote, a 1910’s Victorian
home has been recently restored by your hostess and her parents. Follow your way
along the rock path to the stairs south of the house, enjoy the cottage garden
along the way. As you find your way up the stairs, you will find yourself
perched with the pecan treetops.
The sitting room is ample enough to afford a love seat and
several cushy chairs. Decorated with an eclectic pastel pallet, the sitting room
invites you to read a book, watch television, discuss the day’s adventure, or
plan tomorrow’s foray into Fredericksburg. Put your feet up on the bench coffee
table and relax. Many of the antiques have been passed down through generations.
In the morning savor your home baked continental breakfast at
the dining table. The antique table, which is hostess’ parent’s first antique,
is often adorned with wonderful old linens, bringing memories of breakfast with
your favorite, maybe colorful, grandmother. A unique, homemade cabinet houses a
microwave, coffeemaker and small refrigerator. Part of the cabinet was purchased
locally in the Hill Country, the base was composed by various scrap pieces
salvaged from the home’s restoration.
The bedroom invites a cozy atmosphere with the custom pillows
and linens. Relax in the queen-size antique iron bed, passed down from
grandmother to mother to daughter. Lamps on either side of the bed provide the
perfect reading light. At night after the lights are out, look upward to enjoy a
special celestial surprise. The bath is very spacious and quite cheerful. As in
other parts of the suite, antiques abound, including a French wire rack, vanity
stool, and display dishes. The efficient shower complete with a generous sitting
bench is very spacious.
Before leaving the Dovecote, take a moment to look out and
enjoy the cutting garden to the southwest and the formal vegetable garden in the
backyard.
