3rd Annual LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour, March 27, 2010

The 3rd Annual LBJ 100 Bicycle Tour on March 27, 2010 will signal the beginning of the spring cycling season in the gorgeous Hill Country of Texas. Beginning (9:00 AM) and ending on the air strip of the historic LBJ Ranch, with routes of 10, 30, 44, and 65 miles, the venue is one of scenic, quiet country lanes and hilly, traffic-free, smooth-surface  ranch roads. There's a cycling route for all abilities!

As an added feature, Luci Baines Johnson will lead a 'Historical Tour of the LBJ Ranch' (2:00 PM depart). This narrated tour of the ranch landmarks is a not-to-be-missed event included in the registration price. Listen to Presidential history from someone who lived it!

An exciting new addition to the 2010 LBJ 100 is the addition of historic Gillespie County rural schools as rest stops. What better way to honor Lyndon B. Johnson, the thirty-sixth President of the United States, widely acknowledged as the 'Education President'! His progressive education bills and many of his 'Great Society' legislation programs were designed in the tranquility of his ranch. This truly will be a 'Ride to Preserve History'!

Hill Country Film Festival

A first-time three-day celebration of independent films and filmmakers is planned here April 22-24 at Stagecoach Theater, 2254 South U.S. Highway 87.  The Hill Country Film Festival (HCFF) will showcase 25 short and feature films from all over the world in three days of showings and socials.

HCFF blends unique artistic culture of the hill country with the independent film world, hosting three days of feature and short independent films, parties and gatherings. Over 25 short and feature films from all over the world will be showcased during the festival.

A highlight of the festival is the screening of the documentary “The Inheritance of War”, a relatively unknown story of personal accounts of WWII Veterans and Bataan Death March survivors.  “The Inheritance of War” producer and narrator James Parkinson dedicated his life to telling this story and is a powerful example of the passion and determination the independent film world thrives upon.

The movie is a story close to the heart of Fredericksburg’s own historic Nimitz Museum and a perfect catalyst to bring together the culture of the hill country with that of the independent film world. Much like the story of the WWII Veterans in “The Inheritance of War”, there are so many stories that have the potential to touch so many people, yet they remain untold if not for the perseverance of a few. HCFF has been established as an opportunity for filmmakers and enthusiasts to recognize and pay homage to the accomplishments of film.

Official selection of films will be announced by March 26.
