Nestled in the hills just outside Fredericksburg alongside the year round flowingPalo Alto Creek, is a wonderful pioneer farmstead. Palo Alto Creek Farm retains all of its original buildings, providing a visual timeline from when this farmstead was first settled in 1854 by German immigrant Karl Itz and his bride, until the present day.

The Barn, a circa 1880 limestone structure, had humble beginnings housing livestock. Today it is meticulously renovated to provide guests the maximum in country elegance and luxury. Windows provide a view of ancient Live Oak trees and beautiful lawns. Enter the barn from a charming vine and lattice covered front porch. This secluded porch is a perfect place to enjoy morning coffee and greet the beautiful Hill Country day. Share dreams and promises in the two cozy chairs facing the fireplace; or watch firelight make shadows dance on the anxient limestone walls from the king-size pine pencil post bed, nestled down in fine linens and plump pillows. Antiques and folk art abound, including an original lightning rod from the Itz farm house. The bathroom, a special feature of The Barn provides the ultimate experience. The whirlpool tub for two, encased in bleached white pine, rests on large slabs of native limestone. Sunlight, or starlight, filters in through a leaded glass window and skylight.

While staying a Palo Alto Creek Farm enjoy the abundant wildlife. Early in the morning, wild turkey have been known to meander up the creek, and there is a never ending display of bird activity and song. And, if you want a real soul-expanding experience, go outside at night and look up! The stars are incredible. Guests especially enjoy sitting in the swing under an 800 year old Live Oak to watch the deer that come in each evening. The surrounding area is ideal for walking, running, hiking or biking.

Maybe you saw Palo Alto in one or more of the following publications: Log Home Living (June, 2000) featured The Log Cabin; Country Accents (July/Aug 1998) features The Barn; Texas Journey (January/Februar 2000) features Palo Alto Creek Farm as one of the Five Great Romantic Getaways.; National Geographic Traveler (Nov/Dec. 2002) features The Barn; and Texas Monthly (Dec 2002) featured Palo Alto Creek Farm as one of 25 favorite things that make Texas delightfully different.
