The Potter’s Cottage is a little rock farmhouse built by Felix Walch in 1895, just south of Baron’s Creek. The Alban family bought the house in 1966 from the only other interim owners, the Jenkes. The current owner, Finn Alban, is a potter who makes functional and sculptural work in her studio on the property.
Located on the homeowner’s property The Potter’s Cottage is furnished and decorated with objects and art made by Finn’s family or collected from other artists and craftsmen friends. Some notable pieces made by family members are: The paintings in the upper bedroom were done by Laura Alban, Finn’s mother, known for her WPA post office mural in Eunice Louisiana. Laura also did the painting of the interior of an old rock house which hangs in the entry. Bob Alban, Finn’s brother, a fine wood worker and boat builder, made the couch in the TV room. Pablo Soto, Finn’s son, is a glass blower who made the entry light by the back door. Some other objects of interest include the Hopi Kachina hanging in the TV room along with two wooden Green Man chairs brought to this country from England by Finn’s great grandmother.
Inside this historic home is a living room with comfy sofa (also can be used as single sleeper) faced to enjoy the cable television. Walking up a couple of steps will take you into the master bedroom with a queen iron headboard. The watermelon walls and red floor create a special warm feel in this room. Downstairs in the basement is the second bedroom with a double bed. The bathroom is found next to the back door of the cottage and has a clawfoot tub with shower.
Both the front and the back door lead you to a wonderful area to enjoy and watch nature. The back patio has table and chairs for guests to relax. Part of the charm of this property is the art studio, kiln and other features that remind you of being in an artist’s world of creativity. The front door leads to a big beautiful yard with views of the windmill and water tank plus beautiful trees and plants.
