Guests at the Gillespie County Historical Society’s annual Tannenbaum Ball will enjoy a top Austin show band, catered meal, silent auction and prize drawing on Saturday, December 4, at the Pioneer Pavilion in Lady Bird Park beginning at 7 p.m.
The theme for this year’s ball is the Diamond Anniversary, celebrating the Society’s forming in 1934 to preserve and share the area’s cultural heritage.
The public can purchase prize tickets for a .75-carat oval diamond valued at $2,200 donated by Segner’s Jewelers. Prize tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20 and can be purchased from Segner’s Jewelers at 236 W. Main St, Fredericksburg TX; Janie Trantham at 830-990-9675; or Pam Spruiell at 830-997-5809.
Austin’s top show band – Groove Daddy – will liven up the event with popular tunes from the 1950s to today. The 10-piece group features a full horn section to help recreate the original sound of everyone’s favorite songs. They play high-energy dance hits by such artists as James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Kool and the Gang, The B-52s, Tina Turner, and more.
Carte Wheels will cater a full meal, beginning with hors d’oeuvres of Tiny Yorkshire Puddings with Shaved Roast Beef and Cranberry Horseradish, Seared Tuna Bite with Pickled Ginger and Wasabi Aioli, and Crisp French Carrot Salad Presented in a Petite Cone. Salad is Mixed Baby Greens, Dried Cranberries, Spiced Pecans, and Gorgonzola presented with Blush Vinaigrette in a shot glass on the side. Dinner is Roasted Beef Tenderloins Tournedos with Roasted Shallot and Port Demi Glace, Smoked Gouda Mashers, and Fine French Beans with Pancetta. Dessert is Carte Wheels’ Famous Apricot Bread Pudding with Butter Rum Sauce.
Attendees can also bid on select auction items which so far include a house for 12 in Santa Fe, murder mystery dinner, a condominium in Colorado, an antique gun, crawfish/shrimp boil for 40, a Houston Grand Opera package, plus fly fishing, a day hunt, gourmet dinner and helicopter ride.

The annual Home Tour takes place on the following Saturday, December 11, 2010, from noon until 6 p.m. Tickets for the Home Tour are $25 per person and include tour booklet and access to seven homes decorated for the holiday season, all open to the public for the first time.
