March 23, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 4:30 pm, repeating until March 24, 2019

Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site will host two special events to celebrate the unique history of the Texas-German Dialect. This dialect not only tells the story of how Germans adapted to Texas but also the rich cultural traditions they developed.

At 10 am and 2 pm, Saturday, March 23, at the LBJ State Park Visitor Center, the Texas-German Dialect Project from the University of Austin will share how they are preserving the Texas-German dialect. Between the presentations at the Visitor Center, representatives from the project will be at the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm to answer questions regarding their work.

At 4:30 pm on Sunday, March 24, the LBJ State Park Visitor Center will host the Hill Country premiere of “All Güt Things: The Texas German Story.” Over several years in development – including many interviews in the Hill Country – this documentary explores the past, present, and future of the Texas-German dialect through the stories of those who grew up speaking it.
