Honoring those who have served and those still commissioned with a two-part event featuring historians and educational programs. For the Symposium, this year’s master of ceremonies will be Justice Ken Wise (Texas 14th Court of Appeals/host of Wise About Texas podcast) and includes presentations by Dr. Richard B. McCaslin (on legendary Texas Ranger Captain, Will Wright), FTRA Historian Dr. Jody Edward Ginn (on his new book, East Texas Troubles: The Allred Rangers Cleanup of San Augustine), and a round-table discussion on the recent blockbuster Netflix Original Film, The Highwaymen (based on legendary Texas Rangers Frank Hamer and Manny Gault, starring Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson) and featuring the great-grandsons of Hamer and Gault (talking about what the film’s myth-busting portrayal means to their families), plus Dr. Ginn (who consulted on the film) and, possibly, a member of the cast as a special guest commentator.
Texas Rangers Day will include Living History HQ Company Rangers who will present re-enactments focusing on the time periods of 1823 to 1960 including Ranger Camp set ups, cannon firing and memorabilia displays. Food vendors will be available. Please call (830) 990-1192 or visit the website for more information as it becomes available or to reserve your spot!
10 am to 4 pm. Cost for Ranger Day only is a $10 parking fee per carload. Symposium ticket price is $25 per person the day of the event and includes lunch and parking.
