Alternative Gift Market at Memorial Presbyterian Church – November 9
Memorial Presbyterian Church will hold an Alternative Gift Market at the church fellowship hall located on 601 N. Milam, Fredericksburg, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, November 9. Proceeds from the Market will go to support organizations that promote human dignity and social justice and make a difference in individual’s lives.
Art of Palm –Panamanian textiles with mola motifs designed by Kuna artists in Panama. Molas are sewn by hand in a reverse appliqué technique using layers of colored fabrics. Most of the artists are the sole wage earners trying to sup-port their families.
Pal Craftaid – Fair Trade olivewood and embroidered crafts made by Palestinian Christians. The proceeds help sup-port families, schools, elderly groups and community cooperatives. Pal Craftaid is a non-profit ministry of compassion, hope and healing for Palestinians.
Eternal Threads- handmade paper, shawls, felt pillows, Nativities, and baskets from Afghanistan, Africa, Madagascar, and Nepal. Eternal Threads is a non-profit located in Abilene, Texas, that benefits women by providing sustainable fair income for their handmade goods.
Women’s Bean Project- soup mixes, jewelry, and other food items made by women in Denver, Colorado. Women in the project learn job readiness and life skills so they can obtain and keep mainstream employment.
SERRV- handmade baskets, scarves, children’s musical instruments, jewelry, Nativities, and Christmas ornaments. SERRV is a non-profit alternative trade and development organization serving more than 30 countries.
Heifer International- offers opportunities to purchase various animals and provide them to families around the world, who then promise to pass along their offspring. Also, small stuffed animals – goats, rabbits, bees, cow, sheep and pigs) and children’s books are available for purchase.” .
Equal Exchange- coffee and chocolate bars sold to guarantee a fair price for the farmers who belong to small farmer organizations in Africa, Asia, and the United States.
Memorial Presbyterian Women of the Church- home baked holiday treats, jams and jellies.
Proceeds will benefit students attending the Cailloux School located at the Hill Country Youth Ranch, Ingram, Texas.
Guatemalan goods – colorful textiles including table linens, laptop cases, bags, stoles; gift items, jewelry. These goods are made primarily by women, who help to support, or are the sole support, of their families.
Partners for Just Trade – Haitian metal art; also from Peru – jewelry, pottery, bags, painted and carved gourds. The organization helps impoverished men and women work together to produce these unusual, but lovely items, and to sell them at a fair price.
Rahab’s Rope – jewelry, scarves, jewelry bags – this organization helps women and girls of India who have been or are in danger of being forced into the sex trade. they provide vocational training and education.
African Team Ministries – baskets, carvings, jewelry. They provide funding for orphans and refugee relief missions and evangelism in East Africa.
Presbyterian Children’s Home – cards designed and crafted by the children. PCHAS provides group homes for children whose families are unable to care for them – sometimes temporarily, sometimes until the child is an adult.
