Located only a few miles from town this log cabin dates back 150 years. Built by your host’s great grandfather, the log cabin was recently moved to it’s new home from the family home-place just a half mile away. The original log cabin is small... a fachwerk addition was added during the restoration. A German style wire fence and gate border the house and yard along with a windmill to create a feeling of days-gone-by.
The wrap around porch begins at the front of the house and goes around to the back overlooking fields and pastures. Inside the living room is the original log cabin. A comfortable leather sofa and chair along with an array of antiques are found. Watch your head as you enter the kitchen through the original log cabin door leading into the kitchen. Stained etched cement floors are found throughout the house. The kitchen provides a coffeebar with a sink, microwave, small refrigerator and coffeemaker.
The distinctive bathroom has rustic cabinets with a leaf print designed sink. Unusual green tiles top the countertop and line the large shower. Interesting features include rope used as molding to join the walls and ceiling and designs of trees and animals on the cabinets and woodwork.
A vaulted ceiling with natural woods showcases the magnificent decorative iron king-size bed. From the bed the open room looks at the whirlpool tub in the adjacent room. The whirlpool tub is rocked with limestone and has a majestic framed mirror on the wall overlooking the tub. Rock floors have a wet, shiny look creating a wonderful glow. Providing a view of the woods and a seasonal creek is a glass door that opens outside onto the back porch.

This little house is always clean and comfortable. The owners have provided everything we need and we love the location. In town it's very noisy from the truckers and motorcycles. Out of town you only hear the wind and braying of goats. The view of the creek in the back is so relaxing. The bed is the most comfortable bed I've ever slept on and the sheets are to die for. I enjoy the antiques and furnishings and the electric fireplace is a delightful night light.

This beautiful home has so much history. It was very clean. The bathtub is amazing and so romantic!!! We enjoyed the front row seats to all the wildlife that came up to the fence to eat the corn that was spread on the ground. We live in the country so we enjoy the wildlife. We will be definitely be back as soon as we can.

We have stayed at Francesca's over 50 times and at least 150 days. We were disappointed in the change in the fireplace unit. The ability to burn artificial logs gave a lot of ambience to the bedroom and the tub area. The electric fireplace does not. My wife is into ambience. That coupled with the pipeline and the disturbance the local wildlife she enjoys has her questioning her loyalty to the place. We will have to see on our next visit.

This property is one of my all time favorites because of the rich history of the 170 year old original cabin. The owner left a scrap book containing the cabin’s history with pictures of the process of moving and renovating it. While the original part of the cabin retains all its rustic charm, the newer addition provides for very modern comfort. Old and new flow seamlessly together and complement each other. The kitchenette was well stocked with everything we needed. Deer & cardinals were plentiful every morning and evening.

LOVE THIS B&B AND HIGHLY RESPECT THE FACT THAT IT IS ALWAYS CLEANED VERY WELL BEFORE OUR ARRIVAL. IT HAS EVERYTHING THAT IS NEEDED FOR OUR STAY, WITHOUT HAVING TO BRING SO MUCH OTHER ITEMS FROM HOME. We have stayed at Francesca's about 50 times over the last 13 years. We wish they still provided 1 fireplace log for each night of the stay. We do not approve of the added fee for potential damage. I know that is not peculiar for Francesca's but is very insulting to most of us honest tenants. We have used Gastehaus Schmidt since 1996. To be treated this way is wrong and we are considering other accommodations if we return.

I've stayed in Fredericksburg 4 times and this property easily surpassed the last three. Not that the last three were bad, it's just that this cabin exceeded my expectations. Everthing from the solitude to the amenities offered at this location. The cabin is about 10 miles outside of Fredericksburg so it is a quick trip into town. The cabin is very roomy with a media room (tv, dvd, stereo). Not that it was used, but it is a nice setup if needed. The bedroom has a nice touch with the fireplace. There is a small convection/toaster oven, small fridge and more than enough utensils in the kitchen. Overall I would say this cabin is excellent. I will be booking this one again!
