Bell Mountain/Oberhellmann Vineyards
830-685-3297; 14 miles N on TX 16
The oldest winery in Fredericksburg, the development of the Vineyards commenced in 1976 as an early entrant in the renaissance of Texas winegrowing. The initial planting was three acres.
An experimental winery functioned in the Control Building /Laboratory from 1979 through 1983 when the Winery building was completed.
The appellation proved the premier vinifera varieties could be grown and produce fine wines; the Vineyards were progressively enlarged.
Robert Oberhelman, Founder, President, and Winemaster has guided development, initially part-time and since 1990 with total dedication. Bob, as he is known locally, is a veteran in the food industry. He holds a BS from the University of Kansas, graduate studies in Food Technology at MIT, and is a Professional Member of both the Institute of Food Technology and the American Society of Enology and Viticulture.
